There were quite a few concepts that really helped me in preparing my speech. First off, the chapter detailing how to organize the outline was very helpful since I'm always a little confused with how the outline is supposed to be arranged. It helped me to arrange my points in a way that would be comprehensible to my audience and also let me plan where to put my supporting material. The second chapter that helped me in the book was the chapter on the introduction and conclusion, I didn't realize how important they were in my speech and that it was important in getting and keeping my audience’s attention. I really improved my introduction and conclusion by the final speech by using a story that caught everyone’s attention and a conclusion that made people think. And the last concept from the book that I really thought was important was adapting to the audience. I never really thought much about how the audience could be different merely because of the time of day or the location. It’s definitely something that I will take into account if I ever need to give a speech again.

The concepts you chose really helped me too when preparing my speeches. Before this class I never had to do an outline, so I had no idea how to make one, yet tanks to this class now I know how to write one. The chapter with the introduction and conclusion helped me by showing what are the important things that your introduction and conclusion needs to have. If you have a good introduction the your audience will be interested in what you have to say, same with the conclusion. Yes adapting to the audience is a good concept too, because when it is time to give a speech it is good to make sure for what kind of audience you are speaking, and what kind of atmosphere it is.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to you as far as the benefits of learning how to first outline your speech. It definitely makes a huge difference when there is an actual flow to the speech. Learning how to properly introduce and conclude the speech were also very helpful to me. Setting up the mindset of the audience to listen to what you have to say, then concluding with what you want them to walk away remembering is something that could be very important to a successful speech. I think I have always naturally adapted to the audience when I have done public speaking without thinking about the importance of it. However, doing it on purpose will probably increase the effectiveness of my future speeches.
